January 25, 1861 - Augusta arsenal seized by Confederacy in Georgia.
January 25, 1862 - The Federal expedition at Hatteras Inlet continues to struggle to cross the sand bar at Pamlico Sound, NC.
January 25, 1863 - Abraham Lincoln relieves General Ambrose Burnside [US} from command of the Army of the Potomac, replacing him with General Joseph "Fighting Joe" Hooker.
January 25, 1863 - Union forces withdraw from Corinth, Mississippi. They had been ordered to help protect Mississippi River shipping from northern states.
January 25, 1863 - Brig. Gen. John S. Marmaduke, CSA, reaches Batesville, AR, which effectively ends his expedition into Missouri, that began Dec 31 1863.

January 25, 1864 - Federal expedition from Scottsboro, AL, toward Rome, GA, as Brig. Gen. Morgan L. Smith, USA, of Maj. Gen. John A. Logan's command construct a pontoon bridge across the Coosa River, capturing prisoners, forage, etc, including $5,700 in Confederate money which proved to have been a State fund for the relief of soldiers' families.
