January 13th National Peach Melba day

this thread makes me wonder why today would be chosen as Peach Melba Day, when fresh peaches and raspberries, although available in grocery stores at a premium price, are not in season. To me this is a summer dish. But then, I am usually out of step with the rest of the world.
Could it be that peaches are ripe in Australia right now?

Thanks for finding out about peaches in Australia.
Oh I'm the queen of finding out essentially useless facts. And then remembering them so I can pull them out at odd times. And meanwhile forgetting things that might actually be useful in my life <sigh>.

Please enjoy your peach melba while listening to Old Folks at Home sung by Dame Nellie Melba. According to YouTube, the recording was made in 1913. In addition to all her famous performances listed above, she also sang for the Earl and Countess of Grantham at Downton Abbey (with a little help from Dame Kiri Te Kanawa). :D
