I will celebrate the occasion tonight with a delicious cup of warm milk right after my nightly dessert of ice cream!
I don't generally like milk much, and only drink it rarely, with something that merits it, like homemade sticky buns. I love other dairy products, like cheese and ice cream, just not a big milk fan.
When think of milk always remember the milk that was delivered first to my Grandma later my Mom and then to me as a young housewife. I guess there are no more milkmen and home delivery. It was part of the American landscape for many years.
For many years my Dad first worked for Sealtest and then Borden. Later he worked for a small dairy in Louisville, Ky. called Oscar Ewing. He was a chemist for them and tested the milk . He also went out to dairy farms when worked for Oscar Ewing to check on the dairy cattle.
Milk is now sold at the groceries. I usually get the Kroger brand. Do miss the home delivery at times. Besides milk, would get buttermilk, ice cream, butter and cottage cheese. Those were the days.
I am not sure. I was very young. I do know one of them was in New Jersey. He got up very early and had to take several modes of transportation to get there.
We use to live in Elmhurst. It seems so long ago now. I don't remember the dairy.
Do you know St. Bartholomew Church in Elmhurst? That is where my Grandma use to go. Many of my cousins went to the St. Bart's elementary school. I went to Ascension School. It is closed now but church still there.
I think if I remember correct, Dad left at 3 am to get to work. We lived in St. Albans then with my Grandma. It was a very long day for him. We later moved to Elmhurst. My cousin who still lives in N.Y says the area has changed a lot. He lives on the island. I have 2 other cousins who live in New York City.
My cousin told me St Albans was a a bad neighborhood. It was so nice years and years ago when my Grandma had her house there. Things change so much.
I have to agree with you 100%,it is so good i've been drinking it a lifetime. There was mention about milk. Even though not milk day thought I would bump this thread. Milk is important and has always been important.
There is nothing like a cold glass of milk on a hot day.
My mother never had boob's like that.I believe I will celebrate the day with an ice cold bottle of mother's milk!!!
