James was a Scots soldier captured at the battle of Dunbar 1650.
He was force marched to Durham in the north of England and sold into indentured servitude, along with 34 of his fellow countrymen, to the Saugus iron works in MA.
A remarkable story.
The battle is the subject at this month's historical society meeting.

When was indentured servitude abolished in the U.S.?
