An important stone railroad marker that survived the Civil War and Sherman's destruction of infrastructure and buildings got a new home at the Atlanta History Center while a replica was placed downtown. https://civil-war-picket.blogspot.com/2019/09/atlanta-on-move-stone-railroad-marker.html

Another reason to visit the Atlanta History Center where an original gas lamp post from Civil War Atlanta is also located. A fragment of one of Sherman's shells ricocheted off this lamp post mortally wounding Solomon Luckie, a free black man. Photo of Solomon Luckie-courtesy Atlanta History Center.
