Is This Eagle Breast Plate Legit?

John, that is a little far but if you are ever in the Fredericksburg, Virginia area there are several museums where you could compare your plate to known originals.

John, your brother is just up 95 from the White Oak Civil War Museum in Falmouth, VA. They have several hundred that he can see for comparison. It is a private museum and run by very helpful and knowledgeable nice guys.
 
Now because I don't know, what and how would these plates be used and worn originally?

So, I now have this plate back in my possession and can provide some answers, and new photos to answer some concerns from above. I have tested the posts with magnets and they are in no way magnetic. Dull sound when tapped rather then the bell sound I get when tapping a steel nail. Here are some more photos.
