Iowa Reenactors

Yes there are Iowa re-enactors as well as LIving History. 24th & 32nd IA Inf, 3rd IA Lt Arty some hardcores in the Des Moines area have their own unit. 12th US is out west Sioux City to Sioux Falls area. There are some good CS units, Scott's Battery is out of the Quad Cities area along with the old 17th TN whichhas renumbered if it's still around. There are 3 -4 other CS units as well as some more US units that I don't know anything about or will refuse to comment on.

I do at least one event every year in NE Iowa.

@johan_steele....did you ever participate in hopkinton, Iowa or boscobel, wisconsin? Im 18 and somehow grew a deep interest in the Civil War collecting books and memorabilia as a child and often went to these reenactments. I lived 15 minutes from Hopkinton and they discontinued that event.

It doesn't seem to make much difference what state you live in ... the reenaction is the point. In that regard, Iowans are not all that different than Pennsylvanians. In that community you will find admiration and respect for portrayal. One of the best Confederate artillery portrayals is a NW Illinois group.

All of which goes to show that most reenactors live to show something that has nothing to do with which side is important or right.

I never attended Hopkinton but was a regular at Bascobel though more often as a shooter at the ACWSA side of it. I also run an annual event at Motor Mill which is just outside of Elkader.
