Any suggestions out there for anything good to read about the war experiences of the 3rd North Carolina Cavalry (CSA)?

I've already read the "official" regimental history and some scattered notes (on the net) but am looking for something deeper. The unit spent most of the war in eastern NC but was moved to Va. late in the war and participated in the Bermuda Hundreds, Petersburg and Appomatox campaigns. I don't need a book exclusivly dedicated to this particualr unit, but any kind of material that includes the 3rd in a significant way.

I also found this

Are you looking for contemporary history, first-person accounts, or what? I have a link for the State of North Carolina libraries, including Duke, etc. that have selections you could browse through. American Libraries : Free Books : Free Texts : Free Download, Borrow and Streaming : Internet Archive. This is much more than North Carolina, but....
Lubliner.

One of my favorite cavalry battles is one that occurred at five Forks April 1 1865. The second and third North Carolina attacked two brigades of union cavalry under Custer and fought him to a standstill. Most people focus on the infantry fighting which occurred to the east but the cavalry battles to the west are worth noting

Hey Bruce -

While digging for information about my gr grandfather's regiment (the 50th Virginia Inf) I've read the Regimental History books that I could find but much of the detail came from bits and pieces of info I was able to glean from personal diaries and letters or anecdotal stories that I've found on genealogy web sites. I was able to start many of my searches by looking up the names and stories about regiment's soldiers that I found in Confederate Veteran Magazine. [ Confederate Veteran Archive at SCV - NC ]

I did a quick string search for "3rd North Carolina" or "Third North Carolina" and managed to come up with 69 hits. There are probably more but the optical character recognition may not have converted the original text image properly :

Bruce - I just noticed that you were inquiring about the 3rd NC Cavalry - there are a few Confederate Vet Mag records that specifically identify the 3rd Cav and several that just say "3rd North Carolina" but it looks like most hits refer to the 3rd NC Infantry.

This is great. What a good idea!

And no worrries as to Infantry vs. Cavalry. I am researching both the 3rd Infantry as well as the 3rd Cavalry. My avatar, Lt. GW Ward, was in the infantry and his brother was in the cavalry.
