If you could spend an hour with..

That's fair enough. I didn't specify they had to be a soldier. The politicians of the day are equally valid for the purposes of this thread.
Would I want to talk to Lee? Hell yes!
Would I want to talk to Davies or Lincoln? Hell yes!
Oh I'd want to talk to one of my ancestors that served in the war of course, some of them were in the thick of it. I'd rather hear from a grunt. There's plenty written about and by the famous figures to get an idea what their experiences were, I'd like to hear from someone who's voice isn't as well heard. That's what I prefer to read as well, diaries and letters from the guys on the ground doing the dirty work.

I'd like to talk to my grandfather about a whole lot of things - he was born in 1849. I'd like to sit down with General and Mrs Forrest...but I think I'd mash up the hard tack and make fry bread out of it. I'm sure Forrest would help me hunt down some meat to go with it, and Mrs would help me cook it up - that way I'd get to chat with both of them alone!
