So two weeks ago I lost my mind. I was in a panic state and threw away everything I owned. This included my entire collection of civil war books. I had to move into my car and just had no space for anything but some clothes. I can't believe I did it. But at the time I saw no other option. I'm starting over I just bought the Chickamauga Campaign by David Powell. I just wanted to vent to some people who understand what those books mean. Thanks

Oh no!!!! Hope you're doing okay, @mathias. Stress can have a huge impact on us, so please just take good care of yourself. Stuff can be replaced - people cannot.

But I hear you loud and clear - when you've collected books that mean a lot to you, it is really hard to not have them any longer.

Fear not: All material things can be replaced, as long as you keep yourself in good order.

I'm really sorry you felt you needed to do that. But do take care of yourself first. You can probably replace those that were really special in the future.

I thought at first you were going to say you tossed all your books and just went digital. I'd have had to scold you then.

Please take care. Hope you are doing better. Keep us informed. Books can be replaced but your health and well being are what is important. God bless.

Physical possessions can be replaced. Take care of yourself--that can't be replaced.

You could have donated them to a local library.

hm. Reminds me of a rough patch I went through once years back... my dad suggested that I consider selling my book collections. My mom shut that down by saying, "He'll just end up buying them all again."

I hope things work out for you. Peace and serenity.

books don't have any meaning if you aren't around to read them. So as others have said, take care of yourself.

Be well! Books do mean a lot. A few years ago my ranch burned down and I had a big collection of books, quite a few out of print gems. But...better life goes on! Books can indeed be replaced eventually. Just hope you're all right.

@mathias I hope that meanwhile you could leave your crisis behind - my best wishes for you.
    Now to the practical side:
replacing all these books will be extremely expensive. Let us help.
Please post a list of what you need to replace and I volunteer to buy one from that list and have it delivered to you via amazon.com - and I hope many of us will do the same then. Some here are currently reducing their CW libraries, they probably could send you a book or two, too.

It was good that you told us.
We are more than 10.000 people here. Makes 20.000 shoulders that can help you carry the burden! Give us a chance.

Mathias, if you get to a spot where you have a place for them, let us know because lots of us have spares that are looking for a home.
