Not to my knowledgeIn that first picture it almost appears that the bottom of the boat had some sort of "windows" or small portals to look downward from. Was the Hunley equipped in such a way?
The Hunley is one amazing part of American history. It's difficult to imagine anyone being able to serve on a craft like that.
I see what you mean if your talking about the holes on both sides around the hatch . They are machined and were formed for a purpose so I'm wondering if they somehow functioned as a air release or ballast equalizer to open and close the hatch . Just a guess but they were designed for something if they were placed at that highpoint of the ship and on the hatches .In that first picture it almost appears that the bottom of the boat had some sort of "windows" or small portals to look downward from.
