Hey guys new to the websight everything in here seems really cool I’m glad I joined!

I recently purchased an 1863 new model Sharps rifle that has been converted wondering if anybody knows how I can track the serial to see if I can find out where the gun had been. Also thoughts on what it might be worth.

Welcome From The Heart Of Dixie. Nice looking old war horse. With the serial# it was made in 1865 and more than likely did not see CW use. As far as value, it's VERY hard to give values based on photos there are other factors, how could is the bore, the action etc. Best to just check some of the gun boards and see what other folks are asking.

take a look at the black vertical 4 inch mark on the left rear of the butt stock. This was caused by it rubbing on the carbine clip while on a horse. I have one just like it in my sharps carbine percussion and I have seen many more. they are identical.
So, it was clipped to a riders carbine /rifle belt, while he was riding.
so...IT WAS THERE.
good luck with more. Ken
