Just finished reading a fascinating book about Holt Collier. If his name doesn't sound familiar then you are probably not from Mississippi. But he was the ex-Confederate cavalry soldier (yes, he was a black man and ex-slave from Texas) who led Theodore Roosevelt on a bear hunt in the Mississippi Delta at the turn of the century. It's interesting because he was a black man who fought for the Confederacy. He also used to go to all the Confederate reunions. He became quite a famous famous hunter for his time. His story is well worth the read.
