Historic marker dedicated to Bristol railroad history and train station

Construction of the railroad was instrumental to the growth of Bristol. Buchanan said by the time the Civil War started in 1861, Bristol had grown from a couple of buildings, less than a decade prior, to a town with a population of about 1,600. During the Civil War, the first train station, a large section of the Virginia and Tennessee Railroad and parts of the Twin City were destroyed during the raids of Union Cavalry Gen. George Stoneman, Buchanan said.
