The missing was Col. Eugene Lamar, from Louisiana captured out of uniform in MD, was sentenced to be hung and escaped Ft. McHenry May 1864. After that I find nothing about him.
Two Lamars were killed in the bloody fight at Crampton's Gap, one at Ft. Lamar, one at Monocacy, one at Petersburg and the last at Columbus, GA.

I seek stories that relate to any Lamars of either side or rank.

Howdy + Welcome from Texas ! You've come to the right place. I'm sure help will be along shortly, there are some real historians here.

I believe you already have this information.
Lt.Col. Eugene Lamar (sometimes LeMar), 14th Louisiana Inf., was captured at Baltimore (according to his CSR) on Dec. 28, 1863; committed to FtMcHenry Jan. 7th.

Thanks John. I had that information but didn't have a copy of the article. This is where the trail goes cold so either he successfully escaped and possibly changed his name or possibly he was killed and his death not recorded.
