Even though he was elected as Grover Cleveland's Vice-president, Hendricks only served for about 8 months, Levi P. Morton took his place.
With the death of Vice President Hendricks the office remained open until 1889 when Levi Morton was swore into office under new President Benjamin Harrison. There was no replacement Vice President under Cleveland's 1st term.
