Agreed the above images in the original post are not Columbus Depot jackets. They may appear similar due to the cuff and collar style, but not one and the same. These all appear to be early war items. NC continued supplying their own troops for a good while... Some quantities of excess NC pattern jackets were sent to Richmond and issued out to whomever needed a replacement. Other NC troops also drew and received goods via Richmond Depot issue patterned jackets likewise.. There is the issue of "most common".. then there will be the occasional short run exception to the "rule"...
Columbus jackets existing in the ANV in small quantities aren't completely a fable either... A number of the AOT troops that came back east with Longstreet were wearing them... Also at least one instance that Ive researched revealed that several shipments of excess text book Columbus Depot pattern jackets were sent to Richmond around Spring/early summer of 1864, and issued out.. Ive seen some images of identified Virginia troops wearing them... that had never gone or served in the western theater..
