Recently I acquired this artifact, and cleaned it up. It wasn't in the best shape when I got it but it cleaned up fairly nicely. I was told it was part of a saddle, but I'm not sure what part it would be, if it is part of a saddle at all. Any help on what this is would be appreciated, thanks. I'm new to this site, so please inform me if the link isn't working correctly
Welcome from Columbus, Ohio. I'm not sure what it is but I'm sure somebody will be along that can help.

May I suggest posting another photo with a ruler or some coins with your artifact (anything like that to give the viewer a sense of its size?) Thanks for posting it and congratulations on finding it. Whether or not it is from the Civil War era, it's a very nice find.
