Hello All!
I am looking for information on my 3rd Great Uncle General Alfred Ward Grayson Davis (or A W G Davis). Family lore says that he and Jefferson Davis were first cousins and roomed together at West Point. His son was Runnels Davis and he was killed in war. I am looking for the military units that AWG Davis served in. I know he was captured at one point and died in 1865 as a result of his injuries that he sustained while being a POW. Any information will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Can't help with the units but I've heard claims that actually they were third cousins once removed. Whether that's any more true than the first cousin claim I do not know but felt I should include it for completeness.

Welcome ! He served in the Confederate Quartermaster Corps. While he was indeed captured, He died of a stroke.

I looked for him on Fold3 and couldn't find a CSR for him. Is that because he was in the Quartermaster Corps, so the personnel records would be different than someone enlisted in a regiment?

AJ, here's the file Fold3 has on him. I didn't look at it too closely, but it's a pretty good-sized one! Hopefully, you'll find quite a bit of interest in it about his war years.

Ah okay! Thank you!
You were right, Glenn! Found it right away in the Officers file.
