The Metal band Iced Earth released a song today that of all things is about the charge of the Irish Brigade at Marye's Heights at Fredericksburg. Called "Clear the Way" it has the virtues and faults of the genre.

The video is an interesting attempt to apply a Metal sensibility to the Ken Burns approach to filming archival pictures.

People who like this sort of thing will like this.

I really like this song, but I like Heavy Metal. It reminds me of Iron Maiden. I would pick up this CD. I'll have to look for it. I know I can find it online. the video is very good and it fits the music. Clear The Way! I liked the Gettysburg Trilogy also.

Iced Earth released a song called Gettysburg in 2004. The guitarist had an ancestor that fought in the Civil War.

Agree! It's as long as some of Steve Harris's songs too. :D
Needs Bruce at the helm though.

I just heard a little Maiden-esque gallop too.

The Gettysburg Trilogy by Iced Earth. Some great music for history buffs and metal heads. As I said it reminds me of Iron Maiden.

Their singer is definitely several leagues below Bruce. Below Dianno too.

It's kind of difficult to top the original Air Raid Siren, eh?

I bet Dio could have done a fine job on these songs!

I still like the music quite a bit. I would like to own both CDs. I like the sound. I think Dio would have been fine also. I still listen to Two Minutes to Midnight, Run For the Hills, and others. Yeah I still bang my head. Bang your head, metal hea;th will drive you mad.

I don't generally like Heavy Metal, but I didn't mind this one too much. I particularly liked the images, and the honouring of the Irish. The final part of the intro reminded me of an Irish band called Horslips. They go back to the 70's. Nice share, Pat.

Are you familiar with Symphony X? If you like a little drama with your metal, they're pretty good for that.

Also, I LOVE Bruce's solo work!

We still have all the oooold stuff from the 80s. I had Anthrax's Madhouse playing not that long ago, just to start the day off with a little oomph. I don't know what got into me, but I set aside my usual New Age stuff and brought this up on YouTube. Put a smile on my face.

Oh god make it stop. That just about ruined one of my favorite brigade-level mottos in history.

Probably belongs in the 'each to their own' basket. I'm probably somewhere between yours (Oh god make it stop) and the Beavis and Butthead basket. Middling, in other words

I didn't think Heavy Metal was relevant anymore but this might be a way to bring it back. This might even be a way to peak some interest in American history. I'm all for it!

I tend to lean towards Metallica rather than Iron Maiden but I did like this.
