The Commodore of the Union's Mississippi gunboat fleet was Andrew Hull Foote, and the lieutenant colonel of the 112th NY Infantry, who came to command that unit for a time in 1864 before being mortally wounded at Drury's Bluff, was Elial Foote Carpenter (perhaps his mother was a Foote). So I am wondering if one or both of these men were relatives.
