I am planning a trip to follow the Grierson's Raid Route from LaGrange, TN to Baton Rouge, LA. I have the Blue and Gray Magazine "General's Tour" and will use this.

For those that have made this trip, do you have any suggestions on restaurants, places to stay, don't miss sites, etc.?

This is actually a "scouting trip." My goal is to ride this route on a bicycle either this Fall or next Spring. I have recruited the necessary "sag wagon" driver and several other history nut/bicyclists. Does anyone know of others who have made this ride?

The ride sounds like it would be a fun trip. You should divide into two groups and give one group a head start. Then see if the second group could chase you down before you get to Baton Rouge. How long would the ride be? And how many days are you looking at?

The two groups idea would add a bit of a challenge. So far not enough people are interested to split up.

I did think about making it into some kind of fund raiser for battlefield preservation - maybe something like an MS - 500.

I am not sure how long it will take. That is one of the reasons for the scouting trip. My initial thought is about 10 days.

Keep us posted on the logistics, it might be a ride my wife and I would do. About two years ago we started a map marking all of the Texas state parks that we have mountain biked in with the goal of hitting them all before we push up daises.

What an absolutely fantastic idea! You're a bit too late to get me on my bike, but if things fall into place, I would love to be in the support crew.

Thanks. It may be too crazy. But I have wanted to do this for twenty years. Sag wagon volunteers (and more participants, Mike) are welcome.

A lot depends on my scouting trip. I will give a report when I return at the end of the month.

Again, all suggestions are welcome.
