true it was unscripted. Reenactors just did it when whats his name playing Lee rode up so they turned the cameras on.When the Confederate troops are cheering Lee. Unscripted, I believe. To me, absolutely moving.

Ridley Scott's director's cuts are excellent. Alien, Blade Runner, Gladiator, Black Hawk Down, Kingdom of Heaven. The man knows what he wants and knows quality.Interestingly enough, I've heard that many film critics consider the director's cut to the Crusades-era film Kingdom of Heaven to be the best of all time. The final version of the film is pretty good. The director's cut is worthy of the Academy Award for Best Picture. Alas.

My runner up favorite scene is at the end of Day 1 when the Black Hat Brigade rolls in to town.
I'm fightin for my rats!

Lee: "Things will get of control Mr. Heth, that is why we have orders. Is it possible you could have misunderstood me?"They certainly surprised Harry Heth.
That was an awesome scene!
More like 28 years ago!Fact of the matter is, we're talking about a movie release 18 years ago: that is proof of how good the film was!
Where did those ten years go! My gosh, I know it was released in 1993, but didI just crawl out of a time warp!More like 28 years ago!
Stephen Lang is an accomplished actor, and as Pickett in Gettysburg he was fantastic... but I don't think he was the right person for Gn. TJ Jackson, the right personality... if Gods n Generals could have cut out some of the fluff and showed more action, maybe with someone like Jon Voight as Stonewall, it could have come out much better.
Knowing now that it was unscripted, makes me like that scene even more.true it was unscripted. Reenactors just did it when whats his name playing Lee rode up so they turned the cameras on.
Strong metaphor for the entire Confederate endeavor. Perfect in personality as well. I never thought of that scene that way but it’s quite fitting. The scene after the planning of Pickett's Charge, when Longstreet, full of foreboding, looks up to Pickett on horseback and says "George, can you take that ridge?" - and Pickett, totally confident, starts grinning from ear to ear.
The Confederate tragedy in a nutshell.
I agree... he did a lot with what he had. Great acting on his part.I must respectfully disagree. I thought Lang's performance as Jackson was one of the few redeeming features of Gods and Generals.
Far more people are still talking about Plan 9 from Outer Space.Fact of the matter is, we're talking about a movie release 18 years ago: that is proof of how good the film was!
