Captain T.J. Hoff (Huft) can be seen in this photograph leaning against the tree on the right. The individual next to him is believed to be photographer William Morris Smith.

And they are always saying: the civil war soldier is a lean mean fighting machine. and in his 20's. I would say this feller is about 50 pounds ovrwieght, and well past his prime in age for a capt.. Look at the tent behind him, looks like he is a hoarder.

My favorite part of the picture are the group of black men sitting left of Huft, especially the one holding the goblet and the one that looks like he's whittling or sharpening a knife.
