When I read that George Gordon Meade, Jr. worked on his father's staff, I was curious what he looked like. Among a small shot on geni I found this picture on pinterest:
Union_1863_Meade with staff officers incl. his son.jpg

I've been trying - unsuccessfully - to identify the other officers. The pinterest page only says
Major General George Gordon Meade and staff officers. Second from left, George Meade, Jr.

Has anyone seen this before and/or can identify the other three gentlemen? Any ideas when or where this picture was taken?

It looks like a few of the same people (minus George Meade Jr) are in the photo below

Based on the names shown on that photo my guess would be the identities in your photo Left to Right to be:

Richard Batchelder https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Richard_Napoleon_Batchelder.jpg
George Meade Jr
George Meade
Francis Bache? https://searching4meade.files.wordpress.com/2014/06/bache.jpg
Simon Barstow? https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/34175444/simon-forrester-barstow

Heritage Auctions has the picture with handwritten identities, of course not making them correct by default. They have the same names beside Bache, saying that this is Edward L. Campbell instead.
Found it, thanks! For anyone interested: https://historical.ha.com/itm/photo...eade-and-members-of-his-staff/a/6118-49089.s#

I looked up Edward L. Campbell. IMO it's not him.

As for the where and when the picture was taken, the site says
Photo taken possibly on occasion of Regular Army promotions, August 1864.
But it's also just a pencilled in note on the verso of the original mount, near the upper edge.

After being expelled from West Point, Meade, Jr. was commissioned as a lieutenant in the Sixth Pennsylvania Cavalry, a/k/a Rush's Lancers in the spring of 1863. The regiment's officers were all Philadelphia blue bloods, so young Meade fit right in. When his father was appointed commander of the Fifth Corps, young Meade joined his father's staff. This is a CDV of him taken in Philly when he first joined Rush's Lancers.

Great photo! I am working through a collection that came to our shop, and there is a signed document from Meade in it. Now a have a face to the signature. Nice post! Thanks!

Wow, I didn't know that he was expelled, only that he didn't graduate. Now I really have to check him out. Thanks for posting!
