Hell I can't name any wildly successful Yankee field army commanders that wore the kepi often enough to be remembered in it.
Let me also clarify.... there is a difference (maybe just IMO) btwn a kepi and a forage cap...Well, there was McClellan, and Butler, and McDowell, and Kilpatrick, and. . . oh, you said "wildly successful." Never mind.
(Now Benham -- that man had style.)

For that matter, do we have any photos of Lee wearing a kepi? I don't recall ever seeing one.
As far as full generals go,
I only remember seeing Beauregard wearing a kepi, and I think that was a painting.
Never knew Grant had a kepi. I always thought of him as a brilliant homo slobbicus americanus.

Jackson is often depicted wearing a kepi, but I have not seen a photo of him doing so. Then again, there so few photos of him to start with.
