That was great! I've read that Custer's "striker" Burkman never really got over the fact that he was left behind (with the dogs, so the article says!) and would've readily followed his commander wherever he led.I read at times they had 40 to 80 dogs. An interesting article is at:
I take it spaying wasn't a thing back then?Should be a great book, thank you! There are photos of Custer and a dog but read somewhere, in an era account he had quite a few around. You just know the number grew through the war- can you imagine how many puppies resulted?
