This past weekend I was down in Petersburg for the second time in three weeks. A bunch of us went to grab dinner at King's Famous Barbecue on Crater Rd (get there right around 11:00 when they open if you want to go right in without any wait) and took a half hour or so after to walk across the road to Ft Davis. Aside from the grass growing on the fortification, the place looks like it could have been constructed 20-30 years ago. I had probably driven past the place a dozen times and never even knew it was there.

Did you see the trail marker/interpretive sign shown in the first link you posted?
