Godey's Lady's Book offered this image in 1850. It's a lot more picturesque than a picture of hominy but doesn't taste anything close to as good. Most of us have a favorite memory of a family member who could turn corn into hominy better than anyone else's.

one part hominy, four parts boiling, salted water, Brown sugar syrup

My Granny made this. It was delicious. Need to make for us.

I was curious about this as I had heard of 'hominy', but didn't really know what it was

I found this wonderful video which gives a good description of how to make hominy:

It seems like quite a process, but I'm guessing the end result is worth it!

I'm only a little concerned about the use of 'lye' ... but I have also just been reminded of the use of 'lye soap'.

That's probably a whole other topic

MrsMRB1863 makes hominy from a can fried with scrambled eggs and ham for breakfast sometimes. It's tasty, sometimes with cheese melted over the top, sometimes bacon...maybe not the same as the fried mush...but nevertheless a nice meal!
