The English family of Monroe County, Alabama are special ancestors to me. My gt.gt.grandfather was 2nd Lieut. Jonathan English, killed in mid-April, 1865, in an obscure “skirmish” which was part of Gen. Thomas Lucas’ series of raids in South Alabama. Jonathan was a first cousin of Thomas C. English, as their father’s were brothers. He was never found. This is a 1913 article
describing “The Battle of Eliska”, which was led in part by Capt. T. C. English. Attached is a partial muster role of his Mounted Cavalry.

I mention this battle because I have read that it is scantly included, if at all, in Gen.Wilson’s report of the Mobile Campaign. If anyone has info, it would be welcomed. Also, as a reminder that I typically would not have access to the forthcoming details of
Frederica and Thomas’ life, had I not studied the lineage of my English family ancestors over the last ten years.
