The North Carolina State Capitol building in 1861 and 2019. Not 100% certain I have the same view, as this building looks the same (to me, anyway) on the east and west sides. In the 1861 photo, the old gentleman in the top hat is identified as former Gov. David S. Reid. (Source: North Carolina State Archives) The statue in my modern photo commemorates three U.S. presidents who were North Carolinians: James Knox Polk, Andrew Jackson, and Andrew Johnson.
