Many of us know that there were a lot of farm boys in the armies. One of the reasons they could leave was the quantity of 'machines' that were being invented to help dad keep up with the work. This is an example of one such machine

Many could leave because they owned a workforce to remain working as well, and those that didn't could lease others workforces.

Next came the improved Marsh Harvester @1860 allowing two men to ride on it and bind the sheaves.

1830 Hiram & John Pitts thresher powered by horse
A short time later Hiram added a fanning mill to seperate and clean the grain
