Just by chance, I ran across an interesting comment on boldness in Eddie Rickenbacker's autobiography (our top ace in WWI with 26 kills, awarded the Medal of Honor), reflecting on his fighter combat in World War I: "I recalled episodes in which boldness had been the most intelligent course of action and therefore the most cautious."
