Fortress Monroe Civil War Hospital

Location
Maryland...'bout 55 miles south of Gettysburg.
On top is the US Officer's Hospital, and on the bottom is the chapel at the same site.
These are small albumen photos, and are not marked with the name of the photographer,
and we think these were taken late in the war. These were in the personal photo image
album of a Union contract surgeon who worked there in 1864. In one of the photos you
can see the wounded soldiers sitting down by the side of the building.

Great pics! My gg grandfather was brought there late '64 or early '65. Enlisted Confederate amputee - he indicated they took good care of him there.
 
Is there a written account somewhere of the scope of hospital operations at Ft. Monroe?

I personally know very little about the CW hospital operations of Fortress Monroe, except
what I learned about Surgeon Russell. I think there was a hospital for US officers
and a hospital for enlisted men? The CDVs of patients with wounds in his album include
ones from almost all of the last half of 1864 Virginia battles.
