I love Grierson but his tangles with Forrest might well have made him say something like that, although he did give as good as he got on more than one occasion. But, as Ed Bearss notes in Forrest at Brice's Crossroads, "Grierson was a raider, not a fighter, and he was faced by a man who knew fighting meant killing."
