The Food Forum Trivia Questions for May 7 thru 10 pertain to Measurements and Temperatures.

Measurement Questions:

How much is 1 wineglass?

How much is 1 gill?

How much is 1 coffeecup?

How much is 1 pinch or dash?


Temperature Questions:

What is a slow oven?

What is a moderate oven?

What is a quick oven?

What is a hot oven?

Each question is worth 10 points.

Measurement Questions:

How much is 1 wineglass?

Back then it was 2 oz or 1/4 cup
(now is more like a gill :wink: )


How much is 1 gill?

4 oz or half a cup :smile:

How much is 1 coffeecup?

8 oz or 1 (scant ie. not heaping) cup

How much is 1 pinch or dash?

Tad less than, but close to 1/8 teaspoon; originally what can be picked up between thumb and first two fingers

Temperature Questions:

Those are all over because there was really no standard.

What is a slow oven?

300–325°F, usually 300

What is a moderate oven?

350-375°F, usually 350

What is a quick oven?

400–450°F, usually 400

What is a hot oven?

450-500°F, usually 450; hot oven sometimes called "fast oven"; not to be confused with quick oven :smile:
 
1 wineglass = 4 fluid ounces

1 gill = 4.16 fluid ounces

1 coffee cup = 5.07 US customary fluid ounces

1 pinch or dash = 1⁄8 teaspoon

slow oven = 325 degrees

moderate oven = 375 degrees

quick oven = 400 degrees

hot oven = 450 degrees
