Fitchburg's Civil War-era cannons will get a facelift

FITCHBURG -- The two Civil War-era cannons in Monument Park may soon see some changes.
Using several grants and additional fundraising, Mayor Stephen DiNatale said the city plans to replace the currently wooden cannon carriages with metal. The change would allow the cannons to remain outside year-round, he said.
"They're in much need of repair," DiNatale said. "There's large cracks."
