Finley commanded the Florida brigade of Batte's division during the Atlanta campaign, though often incapacitated due to wounds and command being given to Ltc. Kenan or Bullock.

Were there 2 Florida brigades? One led by Finegan in the Army of Northern Virginia and the other in the Army of Tennessee led by Finley.
Technically there were 3.
First was Edward Perry's/David Lang's Brigade, of the 2nd, 5th and 8th Regiments
Finley's brigade of the 1st/3rd, 4th, 6th, 7th and 1st Cavalry
And finally Finegan's brigade, the 9th, 10th, and 11th Florida

In 1876 Finley and Horatio Bisbee were in the race for a seat representing Florida in the House. Bisbee won by 3 votes and the election was contested. Finley was successful and was finally seated on Feb. 20, 1879.In the 1882 election Bisbee won a decisive and undisputed victory over Finley.

I have a direct ancestor who served under him in the 6th Florida Infantry. I have walked the ground where they were at Chickamauga.
