Well, I'm getting back into the swing of things by writing a novel (which I've long since abandoned for some reason), so I'm going to finish it off and send it away to a publisher. I've been reading "Memoirs Of A Soldier, Nurse and Spy", and it's inspired me to change it, and write it from the POV of a young woman who joins a New York infantry regiment and fights from Antietam to Strawberry Plains, before deserting the army entirely.

Wish me luck CWT :)

Good Luck! Sounds like it will be a very interesting read.....:cannon:

A little Kiwi for our NZ friend:

Get off the grass! So glad you didn't pike out. With your talent, it'll be a piece of p.i.s.s.

Being a scarfie, you can't be a hoon all the time, much less an author.

Would love a shufti as you progress

Rattle your dags, mate.

I am dead chuffed!

Translation:

You're kidding! So glad you didn't give it up. With your talent, this will be easy.

Being a university student, there's not much time for fast cars, loud stereos and beer, much less an author.

Would love to have a look as you progress.

Keep it moving.

I am so pleased!

:laugh1:

That's really good BBF :)

It sounds interesting U_B. I have one question. Why does she have to desert?

Hey MV.

Well, I've written down, in the outline, that she gets wounded twice and is almost discovered; once at Gettysburg and once at Petersburg. If you've got something to make me change, I will take it on board and rework the story :)

There is a story that there was a set of twins in the Irish Brigade, one male one female who enlisted together. She was slightly wounded at Fredricksburg, enough that her Sgt noted she was a she. He had enough respect for her that he kept his mouth shut, both she & the Sgt were killed at Gettysburg. 20 years later at a reunion her brother pointed to her stone and said "My sister was lain to rest there." It was the first any in the regiment had known that they fought beside a woman.

I would dearly love to get verification of the story... I'v never been able to positively verify it, only 2nd or 3rd hand stories. Good Luck.

As far as I know, there was no punishment for women disguising themselves to enlist, except being dropped from the service when discovered. were there legal consequences?
