War Service October 1861 Col. of 51st New York, served in North Carolina expedition, commanded 2nd Bde/2nd Divn/IX Corps at Second Bull Run, September 1862 appointed Brig. Gen. of Volunteers - appointment expired, Antietam, Fredericksburg, reappointed Brig. Gen. of Volunteers May 1863, commanded 2nd Bde/2nd Divn/IX Corps in Vicksburg campaign, Knoxville, commanded 4th Divn (later 3rd Divn)/IX Corps at Petersburg, the Crater.
Brevet Promotions Maj. Gen. U.S.V. December 2 1864.
Post War Career Dance teacher, ballroom operator.
