February 22, 1827 - James Barnet Fry, American historian and Brevet Major General (Union Army), born in Carrollton, Illinois (d. 1894)

February 22, 1847 - February 23, 1847 - Battle of Buena Vista (Mexican-American War).

February 22, 1856 - The first "national" meeting of the Republican Party is held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

February 22, 1856 - The American National Convention in Philadelphia nominates Millard Fillmore for President.

February 22, 1861 - President-elect Abraham Lincoln delivers his speech at Philadelphia, and Harrisburg, PA, and due to death threats, leaves for Washington, DC, incognito, under the protection of the well known detective, Allen Pinkerton.

February 22, 1861 - February 23, 1861 - Under the watchful eyes of Allan Pinkerton, Abraham Lincoln travels in secrecy to Washington, D. C. Pinkerton had been worried about the trip through Baltimore, Maryland, a Southern-leaning city.

I am gonna try to mark my calendar next year for a trip there on or close to that anniversary. Never been there. I usually do a battlefield road trip in February. This year it was Natural Bridge.
