February 2, 1803 - Albert Sidney Johnston, Gen (Confederate Army), (born in Washington, KY. (d. 1862)

February 2, 1815 - Nathaniel Collins McLean, American Brigadier General (Union Army), born in Cincinnati, Ohio (d. 1905)

February 2, 1847 - The Three Million Dollar Bill, wanted by President James Polk to pay for land taken from Mexico during the Mexican American War, is brought before the House of Representatives.

February 2, 1848 - Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo signed, ending the Mexican-American War.

February 2, 1858 - President Buchanan reiterates his support of the Lecompton Constitution to the Senate, which accepts the document 32-25 over the objections of Stephen Douglas.

February 2, 1861 - Texas adopts a Declaration of Causes.

February 2, 1861 - The "Organized Incorporated Territory of Nevada" is created, lasting until October 31st, 1864

February 2, 1862 - Captain David Farragut leaves Hampton Roads aboard the USS Hartford enroute to assume command of military operations on the southern Mississippi River.

February 2, 1863 - The (repeated) destruction of the Confederate Salt-Works at Wale's Head, Currituck Beach, NC, by the Federals transported by the US Steamer, Halifax.

February 2, 1864 - Federal operations about Whitesburg, AL, where the Union men are busy constructing two boats that will carry 15 men each.

February 2, 1864 - The Federal steamer, Mill Boy, is wrecked 9 miles above Jacksonport, AR.

February 2, 1864 - Skirmish on Halcolm Island, MO, with the Bolin gang.

February 2, 1864 - Skirmish at Bogue Sound Block-house, NC, with Maj. Gen. George E. Pickett, CSA.

February 2, 1864 - Skirmish at Gales' Creek, NC, with Maj. Gen. George E. Pickett, CSA.

February 2, 1864 - The US Steamer, Underwriter, is captured near New Berne, NC, on the Neuse River, by Maj. Gen. George E. Pickett's CSA men.

February 2, 1864 - Skirmish at Newport Barracks, NC.

February 2, 1864 - The Confederate blockade-runner, Preston, is caught and destroyed at Charleston, SC.

February 2, 1864 - Skirmish near La Grange, TN, where the attacking Confederate Cavalry of offered the Federals battle, which they declined, electing to remain safely in their fort.

February 2, 1864 - Skirmish near Strasburg, VA.

February 2, 1864 - Skirmish at Patterson's Creek, WV, as Union Cavalry unsuccessfully contest the Confederates who captured the Union wagon train on Jan 30. The Rebels burn the bridges.

February 2, 1865 - The siege of Petersburg is ongoing.

February 2, 1865 - Rhode Island becomes the 2nd and Michigan becomes the 3rd US state to ratify the 13th amendment abolishing slavery.

February 2, 1865 - Skirmish at Barker's Mill, Whippy Swamp, SC, as Lieut. Gen. William J. Hardee, CSA, uses all available Confederate cavalry to hinder Maj. Gen. William T. Sherman's, USA, advance into South Carolina.

February 2, 1865 - Skirmish at Duck Branch, near Loper's Cross-Roads, SC.

February 2, 1865 - Skirmish at Lawtonville, SC.

February 2, 1865 - Skirmishes at Rivers' and Broxton's Bridges, Salkehatchie River, SC.

February 2, 1865 - Maj. Gen. John G. Parke, USA, resumes the command of the 9th US Army Corps, the Richmond. VA Campaign.

February 2, 1865 - President Abraham Lincoln travels from Washington, DC, to Fortress Monroe, VA, and joins his Secretary of State, William H. Seward, aboard the River Queen, where they plan to meet with the Confederate peace delegation the next day.
