I really enjoy chocolate covered nuts. The original chocolate covered nut was the "Goober". They were first sold in 1925. They took their name from goober which was the slang term for peanuts.

The peanut M & M was introduced in 1954. They were tan until 1960, when the colors, yellow, green and red were introduced. The phase "M & M's, the chocolates that melt in your mouth not in your hand", was first used in 1954.

Buy some chocolate covered nuts today and celebrate another great way to eat chocolate.

Oh, miss Swem's candy shop! There was a Swiss-Italian community here at one time and he was a chocolatier from the old country. His chocolate covered peanuts, cashews, Brazil nuts, almonds, pecans and special dipped walnuts were really divine. Umm! Can just taste his milk chocolate pecan clusters!

The De Met's Candy Company was started in 1916. It was a candy store and soda fountain shop. The owner was George De Met of Chicago. One store became three. One of the signature candies was "Chocolate Turtles", which were made from chewy caramel, crunchy nuts and chocolate. They are so good. A real treat on a stressful day.

As I posted previously they were my Dad's favorite. We always gave him a box of De Met's Turtles for Christmas and his birthday.
