Apologies if this has been done already, but I thought it would be fun if everyone posts their favorite goofy Civil War photos. I'll post a few to kick it off:

Some soldiers showing off how big their cannons are:

A Muss at Headquarters, Falmouth April 1863. Note how perfectly balanced everyone is to hold still for the photo:

Looks like the two bottles of wine are being used as weapons - the one at top right is being swung as a club, and the one in the middle looks as though the bottom is broken out of it, and it could be used to slash. If this really is a fight over a bottle of wine, the fellow at the top right should "about face" and retreat at the double quick step with that wine!

Note - I do not have a 'clean' version of this photo.
If this is a Jimmy Rustler, then exorcise as needed.

"I'm tired, Colonel. I've had all of this army and all of these officers, this dam*ed Hooker, this dam*ed idiot Meade, all of them, the whole bloody lousy rotten mess of sick-brained, pot-bellied scabheads that ain't fit to lead a johnny detail, ain't fit to pour pee out of a boot with instructions on the heel."--Pvt. Bucklin

Looks normal enough, until you start zooming in....

These men are toasting something. Between the barrel and the jug I think they're set for the day.

The description I read said this fellow is pretending to play the fife behind his colonel's back...

Don't think we forgot about you Mr. Sutler.

One genuinely amazing aspect of this photo is the large number of black refugees/contrabands interspersed with the soldiers. I see adult men and even a few young boys far left.

I can't tell if that's an umbrella or something else, and I certainly have no idea why the "colonel" (someone with a better eye for uniforms can confirm his rank) is holding his hand out like that.
