Found an early one. 1863 Carbines started with serial 71235 approx. This one is 71879, unusual as the barrel is in the white and has stock patch box. Only about a third of the 1863's had the patch box. I have seen other Sharps with barrels in the white. Barrel and forestock are stamped E.C.B. for Edmund C. Bailey and sling bar is stamped A.H.K. for Albert Harleigh Kirkham. I put it around April 1863. Serial number not in SRS or Coates & McAulay. Closest is three away to the 1st Mass., but that proves nothing. For your enjoyment.
