Dug Real Gold C.S.A. Cuff Button?? Thoughts?

I'll leave the details to the experts ... but my only question is why a UCV member would loose
such an expensive button.

During that era, I doubt many of the UCV could even afford such expensive buttons.
its not gold, just gold gilt

I never said it was pure gold.

That's your expertise.

Either way, it's a danmed expensive button for a UCV member.
Most UCV buttons after 1889 were UCV buttons as the ones here on one of my pride and joys.

I wish Confederates did make gold buttons!
I think a few of the very rich did have some London firms fulfill their orders
for elaborate uniforms of the finest quality ... including gold accents.
( They had to love the blockade runners)

But such orders placed to British tailors were always private purchases.

The CSA government had been struggling from ( day one ) just to provide ammo, and a little food
to the rank & file troops.
