I’m watching football and MrsP is fixing her famous New Year’s Day Hoppin’ John with blackeyed peas, ham and rice! Yum, yum and good luck for the coming year as proud Southerners have known for many generations!
Ready to go - plus ham and collards. That holy trio is the good luck charm for my family. And of course, if we're having peas and greens we gotta have cornbread. And sweet potatoes
I soaked my Black Eyed Peas last night, just now put them on to cook with smoked ham-hock!
I will also make homemade cornbread (none of that boxed garbage )
Happy New Year!
Our New Year's Day ritual is pork and sauerkraut. A tasty meal. Grandmother made "dumplings" to go with her sauerkraut. We affectionately called them cannonballs...if you ate one you would know why when it hit bottom!!!
