Just reading the history of the incident leading to his death and it seemed so unnecessary. Why was such a well connected officer charged with the task of removing a flag ?
He was a clerk in Lincoln's Law Office and they became friends. The bit I read said he was a friend of Lincoln. What was the connection?
Ellsworth had worked in Lincolns law office. Shotgun used at close range or slugged.
Good article!James Jackson certainly wanted to be seen. It was one big flag.

A typical shotgun slug, could also be used in a .69 caliber rifle. Shotgun slugs are still around and in use for hunting. Photo by Army of Tennessee Relics. Instead of a number of shot, there is only one big round.Very interesting , a new piece of firearm info for me. I wasn’t aware of shogun slugs.

It was also stated a shotgun killed him but this is the entry wound on his uniform.

Is there a picture of the confederate flag he pulled down? I understand it was entangled with his body when he fell, and displayed in Washington during the procession afterward.
Lubliner.
In the picture of Francis Brownell, the flag in question is supposedly what he has his left foot on.It was on display in New York recently
