The 16th North Carolina was originally the 6th North Carolina Volunteers and was a 12 month unit. They were known as the "Burke Tigers". Among it's colonels is listed a Col. Stephen Lee. I doubt it's Stepen D. Lee as he was from South Carolina and in the artillery.
