I wish I could make it, but that's a long way from South Carolina, and I don't think we can afford a long trip this summer. But I'd love to see Vicksburg one day.
I realize that, but if you could it would be great, you are a great contributor of CWT. By the way, the vacation i took to Charleston, S.C. in the late 1990's I still regard as my favorite vacation, the only exception might be my Texas trip. As far as I could see, S.C. looked like a garden of Eden to me. But I know S.C. is a long way... Keep it in the back of your mind.

I wholeheartedly say Vicksburg. I've been trying to arrange a site meetup there of my own but to no avail. Been talking to @Vicksburger, @Lazy Bayou, @jpro, @Andersonh1, @hrobalabama constantly about this too.

I should note as well. In late October-Early November, the Jefferson Davis Foundation is going to be touring a riverboat, the American Queen through Vicksburg on the way to Savannah, Tennessee. That should be included I think.

But be noted, Bertram Hayes-Davis is hosting it.
"VICKSBURG OR HELL!"

Where it is held will probably not influence if I go or not. Well, unless it is in Texas or some other very long drive like New Mexico.

... and you didn't invite me?!?!
It's a side trip. Taking my mom to visit her brother who lives 64 miles northwest of Natural Bridge Battlefield State Park.

And which dates..........at this point thinking I'll stay at a casino that has an RV park. I tow a lil car so can meet up whereever

There is a campground outside Edwards at the old, Civil War Bridgeport crossing. It’s called Askew’s Landing. It’s been a few years since I’ve been but it is a nice place to hook up your RV. It is just off I-20 about 8 miles from Vicksburg.

Which motel? I be thinkin’.
We haven't got to that detail yet.

That's the next decision to make. The last weekend in September has been discussed as has the 2nd and 4th weekends in October. I pointed out the heat in September and another resident of the South pointed out that September is a hurricane season crapshoot for Gulf Coast states.

Either weekend in Oct.

So the discussion of dates continues. I hope we can soon come to a consensus so we can also begin the search for and negotiations with a hotel. I would like to nail those 2 details down soon. Then the fun starts. :smile coffee:

Taking the September-weather in consideration, that @archieclement would prefer an earlier date than in 2018, that I already have a commitment on the 3rd October weekend and that you can't make it the 1st October weekend, only the 2nd October weekend with Columbus Day is free. IIRC no one has so far objected to 12-13 October.

Some folks have expressed conflicts with the 1st and 3rd weekends in October. Looks like we have preliminarily narrowed it down to the 2nd and 4th weekends in October and you are correct I believe in that nobody has so far objected to 10/11-10/13.

Don't make it any later than mid October, I hate the thought of driving to Vicksburg in the middle of a snow storm. We occasionally get snow in mid October, but usually not until late October or early November.

Where ever we have it I would love to host a relic hunting trip (on private property of course) for folks that may want to see how relics are dug and I have several machines that are easy to use for folks to try. Just a thought.
Do you have access to any private property in the Chickasaw Bayou/Bluffs area?

The Vicksburg National Military Park and beyond trip sounds like a great time. But it is bad timing for us..... We will be touring National Park Service venues throughout the Southwest and the South during the month of October. Sorry I have to miss this trip!!!

It has been fun just reading the experience of our members discussions of this early planning of our upcoming season tour of CWT at Vicksburg 2019. As soon as we as members decide a date of the event and a Quartermaster has been decided on... we will be looking forward to another awesome trip!
Although it is still early my wife and I are excited to be meeting old friends and new both near and far..hopefully we can all decide on a date of this awesome event soon!
October is ok with us.
